Dr Narayan Hulse, an alumnus of Bangalore Medical College, obtained his postgraduate-residency training in orthopaedics at one of Asia’s premier institutes – Madras Medical College, Chennai. He completed MS (Ortho) and DNB (Ortho) in 2001 and secured both the Gold Medals awarded for this course. He continued his training in the UK where he spent 8 years in clinical practice. He completed MRCS (Surg in Gen) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh after basic surgical training. Then he progressed to higher surgical training rotation at West Scotland Deanery, Glasgow and passed his FRCS (Trauma & Orth) from the Intercollegiate Specialty Boards (all the Surgical Royal Colleges of UK and Ireland). Concurrently he was also selected for a masters course, of two years duration in orthopaedic at Alderhey Hospital, Liverpool and was awarded MCh (Orth) from the University of Liverpool.
After his specialty qualification FRCS(Trauma and Orth) he has completed accredited and well known clinical fellowships in Joint replacement surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto and pelvic acetabular trauma at St. Georges Hospital, London. He has worked in hip arthroscopy unit for 6 months and has attended Richard Villar School of hip arthroscopy course in London. He has been trained in computer aided (navigated) joint replacements (hip, knee and hip resurfacing).
Research and academic activities
He has published several research articles in indexed journals. He has published two research thesis. He has presented scientific papers in many international conferences. He attends scientific and educational meetings regularly to keep update with the current concepts and evidence based orthopaedic surgery. His current research interest includes computer aided orthopaedic surgery, alternative bearing surfaces in joint replacements.
